This scholarship is named for Ena Gross to honor her dedication to the importance of continuing education. The VCTM Professional Development Scholarship Program supports current VCTM members with two scholarships of up to $2000 each to tuition reimbursement for math education coursework. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide a teacher seeking a math endorsement to teach middle or secondary mathematics or individual switching careers to teach middle or secondary mathematics financial assistance for tuition reimbursement. The courses must be completed within the year in which the recipient applied for the scholarship. The recipient of the scholarship is responsible for submitting a transcript and a receipt of tuition cost to the VCTM treasurer. If awarded, the recipient of the scholarship is encouraged to share the knowledge gained by participating in this course work with teachers in their local school division or with their local VCTM affiliate. Recipients are also encouraged to share their experience pertaining to this scholarship by writing and submitting an article to the Virginia Mathematics Teacher or presenting at a VCTM conference. Katherine Garcia-Larner, seeking Old Dominion University's Mathematics Education Specialist Endorsement This endorsement program leads to a Mathematics Specialist (PK-8) endorsement for individuals with a current Virginia license and a master's degree related to teaching elementary or middle school mathematics. I would like to have the opportunity to help educators differentiate for all students (English Learners, Special Education, and Gifted Students). My goal is to encourage, in our students, a love for mathematics and its benefits. Having an endorsement in mathematics will help me build my capacity and reach this goal. | Stephanie Walsh, enrolled in a Math Leadership Cohort at George Mason University My hope is that with the knowledge and skills gained from George Mason University, I will be able to become an elementary math coach and help more teachers develop effective math teaching practices. |
